Indian women have come a long way since independence—having defined liberty for themselves over the decades, using education and career as their main weapons. In their struggle, Indian women have won some victories that are not insubstantial, mainly, to do with the realization of their rights. These have included enactment of elaborate laws that protect women from certain long-extant moral wrongs, such as dowry, sati, immoral trafficking, etc.
Despite these successes, Indian woman has further obstacles she needs to surmount on her path toward modernization. These include, the struggles she faces daily in balancing her career and family life, overcoming age-old assumptions regarding the role of a woman, caring for herself—physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and so on.
